		vipers enjoy grassy glades
		hot in the sun
		they lie there strangely twisted
		congealed roots
		and when they suddenly slacken
		the sun enters them
		and their bodies phosphoresce brown
		and they become thought

		unbraiding and growing
		one into another
		beginnings ends beginnings ends
		life is a single slither
		torn into narrow strips
		without a beginning without an end

		vipers enjoy grassy glades
		they lie there
		mostly silent
		and if one suddenly slackens
		it is for the sun
		to scan it
		it turns over
		in slow motion
		and congeals -- in endless existence
