		why did you die
		did your fingers fall short of the perfectness of shape
		your mouth -- of the perfectness of hue
		your earings -- of light
		you used to be both the shape and color
		the light
		embraced you like a lover's eyes
		Saskia
		why did you die

		now in great wonder
		I look at your shoe
		my hand warms the chill of your necklace
		I throw pearls to the pigeons
		for them to eat like grain

		silly birds
		they strut about
		lifting in their swollen throats
		the shape color and light
		everything
		that your eyes are lacking

		only jewels shine
		the same way -- dead
